"2016 has come to and end. It has been an amazing year with many ups and a few downs. In many ways this has been my best year ever.

The first half of year wasn't the best. All England was the first big tournament. I ended up losing in the QF to Lin Dan which was a big disappointment as I really had my chances to win the game. He went on to take the title. Impressive how remains as one of the worlds best.

After a tough 3 week tour in Asia we proceeded to European Championships. It was in France I first felt my hip problems. I found out later that this will be something I have to work with for the rest of my career. It was very bad and I wasn't even sure about going to Thomas Cup. Im glad I decided to go and give It a chance.

One of the biggest achievements of my career, winning that trophy together with the team. I can't express how proud I am to be part of that.

A good run in Indonesia Open ended with a tight loss to LCW in the final. My 3rd consecutive final in a row. Then came the biggest event of the year – The Olympics. It was a huge disappointment to lose in the pre-QF – I didn't find any rhythm at all in Rio – to be honest its still a big disappointment to me. It feels like a long time till Tokyo 2020 at the moment.

Straight back to prepare for the upcoming SS tournaments. Another final and another loss to LCW in Japan. Struggling a lot in Korea, Denmark and France with my body.

Then out of nothing came the big result in China. I didn't expected that at all as I really haven't had any proper preparation for the tournament because of injuries. This will also remain as one of my biggest achievements by the time my career ends being the first non-asian to win China Open.

So to conclude everything It has been a superb year and Im very proud to end the year as world number 2. I wanna thank coaches, physios, psychologist and the whole team who has helped. A special thanks to my family and fiancee for all the understanding listning and help.

I really look forward to all the challenges in 2017!"
